Oslo, Norway – August 26, 2026 – Publisher Funcom® and developer Astrolabe® Interactive Inc. are excited to announce that Discovery & Ancestry, the final major Early Access content update for the cozy co-op sandbox survival game in the sky, is available now. The update introduces the Wind Spirit companion; a mysterious entity players can befriend and bring along on their airborne adventures. The Wind Spirit helps players harness and control the winds as they explore Aloft’s vast world of floating islands.
The update also expands Aloft’s skies with new sub-biomes, including lush jungles, snowy regions, prairie fields, and dense woods. Players will encounter dynamic cluster events such as fog banks, tornadoes, and asteroid fields, while reimagined tools such as the Spyglass and Table-Map offer new ways to navigate, survey, and explore the world.
Discovery & Ancestry also represents a major leap forward for Aloft. A game engine upgrade from Unity 2021 to Unity 6 creates new opportunities for improved performance and visuals, while a revamped world, reworked user interface, and updated progression and navigation systems give players more freedom to chart their own path through the skies.
Players can also discover new building pieces for their cosy home and highly-requested stockpiles, alongside Ancestral Memories - a new feature that allows them to learn from their ancestors and unlock powerful character upgrades.
There’s even more to discover in Discovery & Ancestry: new farmable plants, chained Life Trees, Sewing Kits, Dew Catchers, Wind Vanes, Corruption Hearts, and more. Together, these additions expand what Aloft has to offer and give you a brand-new floating world to explore.
Since entering Early Access, Aloft has received four major updates that expanded exploration, creativity, and progression. Adding tons of features such as collectible wildlife, Wonder Islands, ecosystem restoration, custom puzzles, new technology trees, corruption strains, high-tier weapons, and improved aerial traversal. With Discovery & Ancestry now live and after any potential fixes to this update the team will be focused on the upcoming 1.0 launch, with more details to come.
